Airport Warning - My wife landed in Cabo at 2pm on US Airlines flight Number 536 on Oct 28th on her way to Todos Santos. She said she received a green light thru Security but before she could depart the doors she was called back by 2 female security agents and they wanted to check her bag containing her documents fanny pac and her wallet, while one detracted her the other one stole $710.00 US dollars from her wallet. She was in a hurry to meet her ride and did not notice her money was missing until she reached Todos Santos. Anyone else have this problem? ☞ George Masters, g_masters@saw.ca, Todos Santos

a. Airport Check-in:  
Go to the Immigration office on the top level of Terminal 2 departures. It is all the way on the south end. You will need your card, US passport and airline ticket. The agent will provide you with an FMM (the old tourist pass). Fill out both copies at the desk. The Immigration Agents are always very helpful, but sometimes there is a line so give yourself 15-20 minutes. You will need to do this before you go the airline counter for check in. They will not check you in until you have it. At the gate the airline personnel will take one copy of the pass. Save the other copy for your return visit. The 2nd copy will be taken at the Mexican immigration counter on your way back into Mexico.

Keeping in mind that the below is how the process worked last week and this is Mexico below is the most current scenario.
Leaving Baja as a Temporal card holder
1. Go to Alaska checkin counter.
2. After checkin is completed, the ticket agent will direct you to the Immigration Office. The agent will hold your boarding passes until you complete the exit process with Immigration.
3. The Immigration Office is located in the SE corner of the departure lobby, way in the far corner.
4. You go into the office, complete the FMM form, the officer stamps it, enters the info in the computer, he then returns the form to you.
5. You return to the counter. The Alaska agent will attach one section of the form to your Boarding pass. The other section of the form must be kept by you with your passport for your return flight. You will surrender that section when you re- enter Mexico in the fall.

"I just "discovered" AVIS car rental as a place to park at airport!    $3/day, fenced but not covered.  You go into the office, fill out  the form, pay and then park your car in the lot adjacent.They take you to the airport in their shuttles  When you return, go  to the Avis desk and tell them you have a car parked.  Get on the  shuttle and off you go.  Couldn't be easier and their shuttles run  as long as the airport is open."

Warning.. When parking at the Avis parking lot in cabo, I suggest you only use cash. I used my credit card there and right after my card was used for 6- $100.00 charges for gas at stations in Los Angeles. There is definitely a dishonest person working there. 

Last month I had the good fortune of finding Puerto Logistico. Located next to the Hertz garage, with an office in the same building as Eco Baja. They had clean, new, indoor parking space at a cost of $60.00 per month. The staff was very courteous and friendly. I had a problem on my return with a bad car battery. They willingly offered to jump start the car and when that didn't work they had a mechanic there within minutes to charge the battery. When the battery didn't keep the charge, the mechanic offered to order a new battery in overnight from La Paz.
Gabriel, the manager was kind enough to find a local dealer who had my battery in stock at a fair price and had one of their employees drive me
to purchase it and then installed it. I highly recommend them.

a. All United Airlines flights operate at Terminal 1 (old terminal) at SJD, The LAX, SFO, Denver and Chicago flights moved to Terminal 1 to join the Houston and Newark flights about Thanksgiving when the Terminal 2 expansion opened.
As of my last visit, USAir was still at Terminal 1, but I think they will be moving to Terminal 2 sometime in the future. Once that happens, United will be the only American carrier left in Terminal 1.

.  Ever wished you did not have to make the trip down to the airport to pick up friends and relatives who come in those late flight or leave on the early morning flights?  Here is a solution: Book a room at the Best Western Aeropuerto. Free shuttle to and from the airport.  Rooms have comfortable beds. AIRPORT REPORT: Looks like they are trying to get it together at the airport. Here's the latest report:
Picked up some friends at airport yesterday and talked to security, etc and got more details.
There are two pay lots at Terminal 2. The entrance gate/ticket machine for the east lot does not work (but no signage telling you this fact). It is used for employee parking. So, if you try entering, you end up backing up out into the street and going around again.
The west lot (right hand side when approaching) is the one you use. It is marked VIP parking and is the public lot.
You either go up the stairs to the departure area (and then down in interior to arrivals or you can walk south around the east corner of the pay lot and walk to the arrivals area. Sidewalk is narrow and not the best for hauling luggage.
Security said you can pick up arrivals at upper level (departure area). Only restriction is no more than 5 minutes idle time (no parking in that area). He said to tell people with luggage to take the elevator from arrivals (lower level) to upper level, head out the door and you have curbside pickup.
Today, United is moving all operations to Terminal 1 (United/Continental).
American, US Air, etc are all moving to Terminal 2 pronto.
Terminal 1 will only have Mexican national airlines and United.
All other airlines will be using Terminal 2.
No longer need to go to Terminal 1 for any Immigration paperwork. Processing center is at departure area, Terminal 2.

a. Airport Discussion
The new airport terminal is great, but heed these simple rules.
All International flights arrive and depart from the new Terminal. The Upper level is the departing drop off and is easy to drive up to. The arriving level is downstairs and difficult to near impossible to get close to. I would suggest that you have your guests text your phone when they come through customs, exit the doors and go upstairs to the southern end of the curb at the departing level. You can wait off site ( Best Western Hotel lot) and then drive to curb on upper level and pickup with ease

For all of you inquiring about which terminal United Air lines uses, here's the scoop. United and Continental have merged. If you are leaving or arriving on a flight to either Los Angeles, San Francisco or Denver, you will use terminal 2, the new terminal. As of this writing, if you are departing or arriving from ANY other city, you will use terminal 1. Understand this statement includes connecting flights. It doesn't matter what your final destination or point of origin might be. If you go through either Houston, TX. or Newark, N.J., you will use terminal 1. If you go through Los Angeles, San Francisco or Denver, you will use terminal 2.

I saw this on the local (San Diego) news today. A new airline, named California Pacific will start service soon out of Carlsbad, California with flights to Cabo San Lucas. http://www.flycpair.com/

The new Air Tran flight from Cabo to Orange County (John Wayne) leaves out of terminal #1 in Los Cabos. Prices pretty comparable to the Cabo/LA round, but no comparison to the service offered by Alaska.

Guess what? I'm sitting at 'Anchor Storage' at the airport, using their wireless internet one last time and waiting in this calm, cool environment prior to being shuttled to the airport. I decided to quit being a princess and having someone drive me; it's only $300 pesos for 10 days' storage and costs less than gas for two round trips to the airport. I see a few other local East Cape cars here as well - other independent minded people who have also figured out that this is a great option. To get here you have to turn into the road where the large, new Industrial complex is as you're driving toward the airport, then drive all the way to the end, just past Avis. Airport Parking - I've located a different car storage option that could be considered for the convenience of having the car at the San Jose airport. It's a walled compound that has an auto shop that is honest. He speaks good English. It's $40.00 per month and that is guaranteed for four years. Monthly is ok if you are in the US for summer. This includes pick up and delivery at no charge, I give a small tip. If you fly in or out on Sunday there is an extra charge as he is closed and likes to be with his family. If he has to leave them, he charges us extra and takes them out to dinner. For a one time fee of $200.00 he will build covered parking for us. For short or longer term parking at the airport, try the self storage lot just past the airport exit heading south...the first right. They only charge $4 to $6 per day and have lower rates for monthly rentals. The difference in cost depends upon whether your parking space is covered or not. RE: Bus Service from Todos to Airport? - My experience of the bus is it got me to San Jose faster than I have the courage to drive, even with a brief stop in San Lucas. It goes about hourly, the only snag that I have experienced is the bus blowing right by the station in Todos Santos because (I think) it was full. I don't know if there is a way to buy a ticket in advance to insure a seat remains for me when the bus arrives from La Paz. I also don't know if there is any way for the station people to contact La Paz and find out in advance if that is going to happen. They didn't seem to want to admit that the bus from La Paz south had just ignored us. In my case, the next bus stopped and got me to San Jose just in time to get to the airport and rush through the ticket counter and get on the plane due to the blind luck of no line at the ticket counter or at the migracion office where all us FM3 holders get our FM3s stamped. It is a good idea to call a taxi in advance in San Jose to arrange your airport ride, as sometimes they are all busy with something or other. We use a pleasant guy with good English named Sergio, his cell phone is 624 100 3420. I've paid him $25 including tip in the past. - Tom

There is a mechanic who has a business called Tune Specs near the SJD airport. He will park let you park your car there for $35 US and if needed he will also wash your car or do repairs while you are away. He will drive you to the airport and pick you up. 11-19 We had a good experience parking at San Jose Storage. Owner is an American - Nathan Visser. Call him at Phone 044-624-122-4856 (this may be 045 area code now with the change) It's a new facility, fenced and secure, with covered and uncovered parking, and dogs patrolling. And you don't have to leave your keys!

They park cars for $3.00 per day uncovered or $5.00 covered. You need to book ahead for covered because they have limited covered space. They will give you and your luggage a ride to the airport. And will also pick you up - you just call them when you arrive. (Remember to have a LADA payphone card or cell phone with you to call from the airport) They're just south of the turnoff to the SJD airport, on the same side as airport. I have been leaving my car for over a month at a time all winter, they even wax and my $300.00 sunglasses were right on the dash where I left them untouched and safe and so was the coins in the cup holder.
