Biden orders US agencies to improve passport renewal, airport screenings, other services

The ability to apply for passports online, for example, will start on a limited basis this month but will take time to dramatically expand, according to Neera Tanden, a senior advisor to Biden.

Appointments for passport and citizenship applications that require a personal interview (applicants under age 16, first-time adult passports, replacement for a lost or stolen passport, and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad) and for notarial services are available on our website. Due to the limited number of appointments available, there may be no openings visible on the website. If no appointments are available when you first check the online calendar, please keep checking the calendar for newly released appointments and daily cancelations. All appointments and openings are subject to change and cancellation based on local health conditions.
If you cannot find an open appointment and have urgent travel plans (within the next month) or another emergency need for a passport, please contact the location nearest you by email or call +52 55-8526-2561 to request an emergency appointment.

Jimi I just got mine 2 weeks ago. Got it expedited. got card and book 2 days. Pretty sure they are given out on fridays, I applied on Wednesday. After 8 1/2 years of hassles trying to get it, finally found a place were they knew what they were doing. Office is at 401 west A st. 10th floor, downtown San diego. Try making an appointment at travel.state.gov

Tip Paul If you travel a lot, ask for a passport with extra pages. The extra tra cost is negligible. Some countries, such as China, insist on two blank pages in your passport when you send it in for a visa.

Matt Frick My truck was broken into in US. They got my passport. I reported it stolen to them and they sent me an application I had 3 trips planned last summer back to back. I brought my BC and crossed my fingers. The first time I crossed I was very nervous and started to explain what's up and the guy just waved me through. The next two times I crossed I just handed them by BC and DL and no issues.

Post by dean Sat Mar 24, 2012 5:27 pm

Message For US Citizens -- Reduced Services Consular Agency Los Cabos - As of March 24, 2012, the U.S. Consular Agency in Los Cabos will no longer be able to provide most routine passport and notarial services until further notice. The office will continue to accept emergency cases involving U.S. citizens during business hours, as well as passport renewal applications for applicants that qualify to use the DS-82 or "Passport Renewal by Mail" forms.

Services such as DS-11 or "long form" passport applications and notarials that require the presence of an agent or consul will be available intermittently. The Consular Agency will announce in advance when these services will be provided. Waiting lists will be maintained at the Agency. Please call 624-243-4566 with questions or to add your name to the waiting list.

The Consular Agency is located at Tiendas de Palmilla, Carretera Transpeninsular Km 27.5, Local B221, San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, C.P. 23406. In case of an after-hours emergency involving U.S. citizens, please contact the Duty Officer at the U.S. Consulate general in Tijuana. From Mexico dial 001 (619) 692-2154, from the U.S., call (619) 692-2154.

U.S. citizens traveling and residing abroad should enroll in the Smart Travelers Enrollment Program (STEP) at the website below. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency. - Trina Brown, USConsulCabo@yahoo.com, https://travelregistration.state.gov, 624 143 3566, Todos Santos

Passport related Empty online renewal form

Post by dean Sun Mar 18, 2012 4:23 pm

http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/get/outside/outside_5462.html
Applying for a U.S. passport while outside the United States is a different process from applying for a U.S. passport while inside the United States. Although the application forms, supporting documentation, fees and finished products are the same everywhere, each U.S. embassy and consulate has different procedures for submitting and processing your final documents. Listed below is information you should know when applying for a U.S. passport while outside the United States.

Passport related Empty new office for passports in San diego

Post by dean Wed Apr 06, 2011 7:07 am

http://www.sandiegored.com/noticias/9071/Office-in-San-Diego-to-expedite-passports-quickly/

The U.S. State Department has opened an office in downtown San Diego to process applications quickly. Leonel Sanchez /SanDiegoRed.com

San Diego County residents will no longer have to travel to Los Angeles for urgent U.S.-passport services.

The U.S. State Department has opened a passport office in downtown San Diego that will expedite services for U.S. citizens who plan to travel within 14 days or who have a life or death emergency.

The San Diego Passport Agency opened here largely because of its proximity to Mexico and the increase in demand for U.S. passports and passport cards after strict document requirements went into effect in 2009 at U.S. land and sea ports of entries, officials said.

“We realize, for many U.S. citizens in the southern part of the state, crossing the border can be a daily occurrence,” said Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy at the formal opening of the agency on Monday. “We want to ensure they experience no delays receiving their travel documents.”

The State Department has opened passport agencies in other border cities in recent years, including in Tucson and El Paso.

The new facilities are being paid with federal stimulus money.

The San Diego Passport Agency, which operates daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is on the 10th floor of the Columbia Center at 401 West A St., near the America Plaza Trolley Station, and Interstate 5. It has 15 counters to serve customers with urgent travel plans and a lobby that can hold up to 120 customers.

“If you’re traveling within two weeks and need to get your passport quickly, you make an appointment, come in here, pay an expedited fee and we’ll process your passport,” said Rick Saltzman, director of the San Diego Passport Agency. The expedited fee is $60.

About 30 employees staff the 19,000-square-foot facility, including bilingual speakers. The office opened for business two weeks ago and has processed hundreds of applications already, officials said. The office is equipped to process passport books and passport cards.

A U.S. passport book is accepted for travel by air, land and sea. A U.S. passport card is less costly but is only valid for entry into the United States by land or sea from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean or Bermuda. It is not valid for international air travel.

Local U.S. citizens who do not have an emergency or plan to travel within 14 days may apply through post offices and other application acceptance facilities. To find one near you visit http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/

The fee for an adult passport is $135, for a passport card $55, and both $165.

It normally takes four to six weeks to obtain a passport.

San Diego joins Los Angeles and San Francisco as cities in California with passport agencies. Last year, 1.9 million U.S. citizens obtained passports documents in California.

I wanted to let you know how easy it was to turn in my passport for
renewal at the U.S. Consulate in Cabo. I had printed out the form and
had it filled out here is the link:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds82/ds82_843.html took the
form and 2 passport photos to the Consulate was there at 10:00 am and
it took about 10 minutes. The renewed passport should be back in about
3 weeks, the cost was 1012.50 pesos. Very simple.
